Martha Van Etten (Knabke)

Martha Van Etten (Knabke)

December 21, 1944 ~ January 31, 2023

Judy Phillips de Cesare notified us that Martha has succumbed to Alzheimer's disease. She wrote:
Martha taught elementary school for 45 years.  She was much loved
in the district, and was named a merit teacher.  Her gradual memory
loss got to the point where she needed to move to an assisted living
retirement home in Santa Barbara near her son.  We were best
friends for 66 years, and I miss her terribly.

This is the saddest kind of departure. I didn't know Martha, but of course, I truly wish no one would experience a struggle for memory at the end of life.

It was very sad to see the notification about Martha passing.  We were friends all through our High School years.  We went on double dates and Marha, Judy and I went to Hawaii during Spring Break in our senior year.

We had a great time in Hawaii.  Unfortunately as time went by we lost contact, which happens a lot as our lives change.

Martha was a great friend in school.  I was happy that she and Judy were able to continue their friendship after graduation.
