James Cuffe

James Underwood Cuffe II, 49, was killed June 25, 1994, two miles east of Carson City in an ultralight aircraft accident at Parker Airport.  A native of Menlo Park, California, he was born Dec. 16, 1944, and had lived in Incline Village for the past 24 years, coming from San Diego.  Cuffe was owner of Mountain Estates Construction and Mountain Ultralight Unlimited.  He was a flight instructor and test pilot and was instrumental in improving safety regulations for ultralight activities.  His father, James Underwood, preceded him in death  Surviving are son, Orion James of La Jolla, California; mother, Harriet Peime Cuffe Roberts of Madera, California; sisters, Betsy Roberts Banks of Huntsville, Alabama, and Tani Roberts Gritton of Larkspur, California.

.I'm wondering if Jim is the step-brother of Nick Roberts, class of '61.  I remember Nick 's dad married someone while we were in high school who had a son whose name, I think, was Jim Cuffe.  Hm.  I wondered why Jim never joined our "class" on these pages.  Sue's note would explain it.

Jim and I dated throughout our senior year. He was a sweet, funny kind and gentle soul. Yes, his step bro was Nick Roberts, tho they were never close. I saw him at Foothill our first year there, but being in nursing school kept me at the far end of campus and too busy to do anything but study. I wondered what had happened to him, and am grateful, tho sad,to see his obit. RIP, my dear one. Your Pam
