I've found a great new (to me) author and series of books that I highly recommend:  it's Mick Herron and his Slough House (Slow Horses) spy/detective/thriller novels.  He has a great sense of humor -- I laugh on almost every page -- and nice storytelling skills.  Plus, he throws around literary references a lot and it's fun to pick them out.   As a bonus, the first two books in the series have been filmed and put out on Apple TV+ (where you can also view the first couple seasons of the award-winning Ted Lasso series).  Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, Herron's main protagonist (can't call him a hero).  It's a little bit slow getting into the first book, as he introduces all his main characters (although the prolog starts things off with a bang).  There are eight books in the series thus far; give yourself a treat and try them.
