Will miss Mr. Bruce! so much.  He was my favorite teacher and he liked to come to our reunions!!!  He liked us, too!!! Such a funny wonderful teacher...  Deep sympathy to his family and friends... he will be sorely missed.

     Mr. Bruce was a true "celebrator" of life!  Wow!  94 years.  We were fortunate to have shared some of our LAHS  years with him.  He was a wonderful educator and friend to many over the years.  Condolences to his family and friends.

Mr Bruce made history fun for me. His rendition of his college antics added to the humor that he blessed us with. He was, by far, the best teacher that I encountered over the years. You will be missed, Baby Huey! My condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Bruce was the most "kinetic" and dramatic instructor of my high school experience!  How could any of his students learn American history more vividly than he intended? I treasure that memory.

Mr. Bruce was a HUGE INSPIRATION & FORMATIVE influence in my life.  Ken was the spark that started me on my journey to where I am today. There is not a month that passes that I don’t acknowledge his huge influence on my life.

Ken taught more than history. He showed his students they could succeed!!

He was "The Quintessential Master Teacher"!!!!  I loved the guy!  I have a tear in my eye writing this!

Alexander Bruce Cohen

What is the definition of the BEST teacher one could have had in their lives? Kenneth R. Bruce is the answer.

No words to describe the hilarity and direct experiences of his US History classes! And he took the same amount of ribbing as he dispensed! Asked him at the 30th did he know what we called him all those long days ago? And he said "Yup, Baby Huey!"  He wore that like a Badge of Pride among the many other badges he accrued. So many stories! Used to take his pointer, otherwise aimed at the map of Union and Confederates, and make a clean chip shot across the room with his looming gaze following it. That gaze went everywhere:

Several stories not to print here as well. He supported even the nasty comments of Pipkin under his breath or Lavery's snivel, "....that damn Hue!" or even my distracting sounds. Cheerleaders in the front row got special attention in ways not currently PC...... and the boys would roar! There's just not enough words to exclaim his influence! When I was describing my own mismanagement of a family therapy 40 years later, I would say "Wrong way Cohen!" in reference to his teachings about Wrong Way Corrigan (google him, Douglas Corrigan). When he started teaching at Foothills we followed him home to his place on or near Los Altos Ave.... he was so delighted! Imagine, in '61-62, he was 33 or so and we were 17-ish, so eager NOT to be bored at class. Each class was a ripping good session, even the tests.  We will miss him so much would we have another Reunion! Just blessed to have had him in our lives, all of us!  OX RIP  KRB

Mr Bruce was, without doubt, the very best teacher I ever had - college included. He entertained while teaching things I've never forgotten.

Mr. Bruce was my favorite teacher, and I think my class experience was rather unique. I chose to take history in summer school just before my junior year, to "get it out of the way". It turned out to be a great decision. It was Mr. Bruce's first time teaching summer school and I think he enjoyed it as much as we did. We had a concentrated 4 hours a day to study history in an informal, relaxed setting. Mr. Bruce's sense of humor was marvelous and we lapped up our lessons so quickly, he ran throuogh all his lesson plans a full week before school was out. This was equivalent to about a month left of normal classes and something he had never experienced. He barely got to through WWI before the school year ended. So we spent the final week of summer school assigned to independently research and then report on events that had transpired after his notes had ended. It was great fun and a memorable summer. He will be missed.

Mary Ellen Hoy

Mr. Bruce was indeed a memorable teacher, one might say unforgettable. But it was not all re-enactments and lively lectures. One of my most vivid memories is the day Mr. Bruce turned on the projector and left the classroom saying he could not watch - the film was footage of the Holocaust and the liberation of the death camps at the end of WWII. It was a message we could all take to heart today. History is hard, but has important lessons. Rest in peace gentle man.
