Jon Straatemeier

November 14, 1944    ~    OCTOBER 5, 2019

Pam Petersen, one of Jon's sisters, sent the following message via Facebook to Jason Tobie and George Bray on October 6, 2019:

"I have very sad news!  Late yesterday afternoon, my beloved, strong, funny, nature-loving brother, Jon Straatemeier, passed on.  His kids, Logan, Bryce, and Heidi were at his side, as was his girlfriend, Shannon, and sisters Gerry & myself.  He had been at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, CA.

"He was admitted last week with merely a bad cough which turned out to be the result of leukemia brewing inside for some time.  He had been bleeding into his lungs.  The doctors couldn't even start chemo treatments until his lung hemorrhaging stopped.  He went so fast, a complete surprise to us all!  We are heartbroken here!!!  He was such a kind, loving, & gentle soul!

"Please pass this news on to any other of Jon's friends.  A Celebration of Life will be planned at his house in Nevada City, but no date has yet been set.

"Be at peace, Jon!  We will miss you!  You are now back in Andy's beloved arms!!! heart"

Jon and I had a wonderful chat about Model A’s..his from high school, and the three from my husbands car collection. It brought many chuckles reminiscing of his former chariot! We worked at El Camino hospital for a time as well. Will miss his burly wit.  Pam Gardner Green

Jon and I were very close when I was at Santa Barbara and he would visit from Whittier. We enjoyed many laughes and fun experiences together. Catching up at reunions was even better. Jon was a great guy. I am so saddened.

Heartbreaking is all I can feel... It always brightened my day to see Jon walking in with Shannon to the Zott's reunions... He came to many of them.  Loved all his different beards and whiskers!  He was a great guy and will be sorely missed by us all.   Ginni

Jon and I caught up at a reunion a couple of years back.  I can hardly believe he is gone.  We have lost so many classmates recently and it saddens my heart.

Jon and I go way back to our early childhood days when we lived on the same street. Always fun to clown around with. We had some great times together as kids. Hadn't seen him in many moons. He surely will be missed by anyone who knew him. My heart goes out to all his "family".

My heart goes out to all of Jon's family and loved ones at this time of sadness. May your fond memories of Jon bring you comfort. I am remembering Jon's warm smile in our high school days. Warm regards, Marcine
